Lootbound Tips

Lootbound tips for beginners: seat unplaced shapes, fix aura slips, skip empty dice rooms, and pick a Boss Part. Companions auto — you click the hero only.

Watch the ten-tip loop: lift a shape to compare stats, skip a hard D20 that can pay nothing, then pick a Boss Part for the party you packed.

This Lootbound tips page is the habit sheet, not a second how-to-play. People searching lootbound tips want the beginner mistakes that end a first expedition: unplaced shapes, aura slips, dice rooms that pay nothing, waiting for companion controls, and skipping the biome-end Boss Part. Lootbound is a pixel top-down tactical roguelite from ArtDock, published by Dreland Enterprises. Verified August 15, 2026 · Steam.

Why did my new shape do nothing?

The first Lootbound tips failure is not a bad class. It is loot that never sat down. Lootbound has no helmet / chest / boots row. Every item is a geometric block. It only works while it occupies cells on that character’s grid. A shape in the reward pile, a shape you previewed and cancelled, or a shape you kicked off to make room is not in the next fight.

Lootbound inventory: lifting a packed shape while the stat pane updates
SymptomUsual causeFix
New weapon, same damageIt never fit, or you dropped it to keep an old clusterRotate, reseat; if the pane barely moves, keep the cluster
Stats look high, fight feels emptyYou packed the hero and forgot the companion who actually swingsOpen that companion’s separate grid
Aura text, no bonusNo legal neighbor, or the aura wants a type you did not place beside itSlide one cell — auras
Potion missing in combatIt sat on a companion gridConsumables are hero-only when the 1.0 rule is confirmed — move them back

Equipped means still on the cells

Seating a piece and then rotating a larger neighbor on top of it unequips the first one. The inventory does not keep a hidden loadout behind the puzzle. What you see on that character’s board is the only kit they take into the next node. Steam’s own copy is the rule: items do not have fixed slots — you rotate them and place them as long as a cell is free.

One loot card, one seat

After a win the card offers a short list. You move only one item onto a grid. The rest walk away. Shape-reading happens before the drag. A jagged board turns every later card into a forced discard; a dense rectangle leaves a hole for the next awkward polyomino.

If the outline stays red, you took nothing. Rotation is the next tool — not a bigger rarity banner.

Why did sliding one aura break the kit?

Auras are adjacency, not a buff list you toggle. Some items project into neighboring cells and strengthen weapons or armor that sit there. Slide one cell and Slash can become Crush, or a Paladin plate can stop receiving Order. That is the aura slip: you “tidied” a gap and deleted the cluster that was carrying the run.

Forced a huge high-rarity slabUpgraded the bannerThree compact contacts left the board
Copied the hero cluster onto a recruitParty looks matchingWitch Acid or Bard Order sat on the wrong lock

Read the activation line before the drag

Community writeups and the in-game synergy line agree: adjacent only, weapons only, plate only, instruments only — exact names stay TBA. [TechTimes](https://www.techtimes.com/articles/324346/20260813/lootbound-launches-today-inventory-auras-turn-gear-placement-build-design.htm) is blunt that the aura’s geometry is fixed; you arrange everything else around it. Hover again before a biome gate. Some high-rarity pieces rotate between fights.

Small items multiply contacts

The [ten-tip clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP9tnXcNAfY)’s last rule is the one that sticks: a ring that pays per connected item is worth more surrounded by five compact pieces than touching one giant armor block. A 3×3 divine that forces three useful items off the board can make you weaker. Named pieces stay TBA; the shape tax does not.

If the next icon is a dice room, the same “does this finish the kit?” test applies — except a fail can leave the board empty.

When does a dice room pay nothing?

Steam’s risk line is short: special rooms offer several options at different difficulties. The more valuable the reward, the harder the dice roll. 1.0 clips fill in the click: pick a reward line, roll a D20, spend an extra die if you have one, and walk out empty-handed if the roll fails. That empty-handed state is the Lootbound tips people search after a healthy run suddenly has nothing.

Lootbound tips clip: skip a hard dice room unless the reward finishes the kit
Take the hard D20 when…Take the safer line when…
The reward completes the kit you are already packingThe reward is a maybe you would stash and never seat
It is the only option that helps this partyA fight or chest on the other branch grows the board
You have a spare die and can afford a missA fail leaves you empty-handed into an elite stretch
Training: you want a number, not another shapeThe board is already jammed and you need a campfire more

Extra dice raise the chance. They do not guarantee the reward

[Turn Based Lovers](https://turnbasedlovers.com/review/lootbound-impressions/) and [Technetbook](https://www.technetbooks.com/2026/08/lootbound-review-art-dock-roguelike.html) both watched the same fail: extra dice still miss, and the node pays nothing. Bonus dice refresh when you enter a new biome — spend them on a line that finishes a cluster, not on every shiny icon. Exact add / advantage / reroll math stays TBA.

Training is a cousin, not a free upgrade

The [Into Indie Games beginner writeup](https://intoindiegames.com/walkthroughs/tips-tricks/lootbound-beginners-guide/) treats training as its own risk node: you roll for an upgrade instead of a new shape. Count it as a dice-style room when you route. Blacksmith gems stay on the piece — do not enchant a temp drop you will unequip at the next recruit. Camp before the dangerous stretch; Health does not refill after trash.

Scan the mistake table before the next icon. It is the mid-run checklist this page is for.

What beginner mistakes waste a run?

Use this as a pre-node checklist. Situation to action — not another loop recap. The beginner guide already taught the expedition; this table is the process errors that still kill it.

MistakeFix
Walking to the next node with loot still in the pickup pileRotate it onto a grid or it is not equipped — inventory
Forcing a hub “build” through Act 1Stay flexible until a strong shape and its auras appear, then commit
Equipping the biggest rarity and deleting three contactsKeep the compact piece that preserves the cluster
Sliding an aura “to tidy” without reading neighborsCheck the activation line — auras
Spending Mana on every trash packBasic attack unless the preview says you need the spend
Rolling every hard D20Only when the reward finishes the kit or you have a spare die
Waiting for companion controlsThere are none — combat
Cloning the hero’s kit onto the recruitGive the recruit their job: Crush/Acid, Order, or Slash — not a second copy
Camping a campfire at critical HealthHeal before the dangerous stretch
Skipping the biome-end Boss PartPick one — it is the Guardian you will fight — bosses
Handing the Guardian critIf a part choice reads as crit, take the other one
Parking the only heal on a companion gridConsumables stay on the hero when that 1.0 rule is confirmed

One habit that fixes most of them

After every drop, lift the new shape, read the pane, and ask whether it adds an aura contact or only occupies a cell. Two seconds there prevents most wasted first runs. The [4kids1hour clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP9tnXcNAfY) spends a whole tip on that stare.

If you are still sitting on the combat pane waiting for the Bard to glow, the next section is the control rule — not another packing tip.

Why can I only click the hero?

Steam is blunt: in combat you control only the main hero. Companions act on their own. You still equip them — each recruit has a separate grid — but you never get their hotbar. Lootbound tips that treat the new body as a second you are how a first run waits through a turn that already resolved.

Companion’s turnWatch initiative resolve their kitLook for a second stick
Just recruitedRebuild both grids from scratch for their jobCram the new kit into leftover holes
Warrior drowning in platesRecruit Witch (Acid) or anyone carrying CrushAdd a second Slash clone
Bard opening nodes hurtExpect it — recruit a damage class at the first roomJudge Bard by personal damage
Great shape does not fit the heroStash it for the recruitBreak the board that is keeping you alive

Pack the recruit for their job, not yours

Warrior wants damage, Slash, and crit-style offense. Paladin wants Armor, Health, Resistance, and Order. Witch wants Acid, Chaos, and Mana. Bard (Jester alias) wants Order and whatever makes the rest of the party hit or live. Full roles: classes. You issue orders for the starting hero only — the rest is the inventory you packed before the node.

Armor comes back. Health does not

After a fight, armor refills, mana returns in part, and Health stays damaged. Spend armor. Bank Mana for elites and the biome gate. A companion can dump a costly skill on the last grunt — you cannot queue their click. That is why the recruit’s grid is a job, not a trophy case.

The biome does not end on that recruit. It ends on a two-card pane.

When do I take a Boss Part?

At the end of each biome you choose one of two Boss Parts. Those parts change how the final Guardian / Sentinel looks and hits. After Dungeon, Forest, and Desert, you fight the assembled boss. Skipping the choice is not a shortcut — it is how a first run walks into a Guardian it never planned for.

Any partyThe card that does not delete your thinnest companionCrit on the Guardian — take the other card

Pick for the board, not the banner

Community 1.0 notes and the [ten-tip clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP9tnXcNAfY) agree on one refuse: do not hand the final boss crit. Vampirism on your side does not save a body that eats a heavy crit. Part names (Blood Hand, Blood Head, and the rest) stay TBA until the 1.0 roster is logged. Catalog: bosses.

Sell what you will not wear

Once the grids are locked for the Guardian, leftover stash pieces cannot help in the fight. Turn them into hub currency for Barracks / Game Room / Laboratory. Exact conversion rates stay TBA. Barracks stats help the next first nodes; Game Room dice and Laboratory unlocks can wait until you have died once and know what you lack.

If the same wipe repeats, it is usually one of the process errors in the table above — not a missing legendary name.

Lootbound tips FAQ

What are the most important Lootbound tips?

Seat every shape before the next node, slide auras on purpose, skip a hard D20 you cannot afford to fail, click the hero only, and pick one Boss Part at each biome end. That is the habit sheet this Lootbound tips page is built around.

Why did my new weapon do nothing?

It never fit on the grid, or you unequipped it when you rotated another shape. Items have no fixed slots — inventory.

Why did my aura stop working after I moved one tile?

Auras need a legal neighbor. Slide one cell and the lock (weapons only, plate only, adjacent only) can go dark. Read the activation line, then rebuild the cluster — auras.

Should I always take a dice room?

Only if you can afford a failed D20. Extra dice raise the chance; they do not guarantee the reward. A miss can leave you empty-handed.

Do I control companions in Lootbound?

No. You control the starting hero. Companions take their own turns from initiative using the kit on their separate grid.

What happens if I skip a Boss Part?

You still fight the Guardian those parts assemble. Skipping the pane is how a first run walks into a boss it never planned for. Pick one of two at each biome end — bosses.

Should I always equip the highest rarity?

No. A smaller legendary that keeps three aura contacts often beats a 3×3 divine that deletes them. Lift the piece and read the pane before you lock it.

Is there a Lootbound demo?

Yes — Steam demo app 4290960. If the demo will not load, use the official demo page and verify local files there. Demo notes can be stale after 1.0.

What should I read next?

The inventory guide — rotate shapes onto the grid so loot actually equips. Then auras and the map for dice rooms.
